Eating here is much more than just filling your stomach – it is community, tradition and a piece of home.
I am often asked: What do the children and we actually eat here?
Our cuisine is varied, nutritious—and often very traditional. 🥗🍖🍎🍛🍗🫛
Breakfast:
Boiled (sweet) potatoes with hard-boiled egg
Cassava (manioc root)
Chapati (flatbread)
Mandazi (similar to a donut, but without filling and not as sweet)
Lunch and dinner:
Wali Nyama (rice with meat)
Wali Maharage (rice with beans)
Makande (beans with corn)
Ugali (corn porridge) with meat or fish, sometimes with small dagaa fish, often supplemented with mboga (vegetables)
Pilaw Kachumbari (spiced rice with tomato, onion, and cucumber salad)
Ndizi (cooked plantains)
On Sunday lunchtimes, there's a special treat: fries with chicken . The meat and fish portions are rather small, but there are plenty of vegetables and filling side dishes.
Here are just a few impressions:
And at least once a month everyone is especially happy – then we celebrate the birthday children and there is cake 😋
Bon appetit!
