Our cook lovingly prepares meals for everyone every day. He receives enthusiastic support from the children and their mothers. Together they prepare, cook, serve, and clean up – the kitchen is a place where everyone pitches in and takes responsibility. We've already shared some insights into this in a previous blog post.
Sunday belongs to the church.
On Sundays, we go to church – provided the roads aren't too muddy. According to the social services office, we are obligated to accompany and support the children in the faith of their families of origin.
There are three different Christian churches in our area, all within a 20- to 40-minute drive. Since I've visited the Catholic church several times, this time I also had the opportunity to accompany children to a Lutheran church and a Pentecostal church. The latter is very small – our visit effectively doubled the number of worshippers! 😉
The children love going to church. They dress up nicely, sing along joyfully, and dance enthusiastically to the music. It's wonderful to see how much they participate.
Other faiths are also accompanied.
The Muslim children attend the mosque every Friday. In addition, children of all faiths attend religious instruction once or twice a week.
It is important to us that every child is allowed to live their faith and is respectfully supported in doing so.
A special breakfast 🍽️
A highlight of the week awaits every Friday morning: Our cook prepares fresh chapati – a popular flatbread that the children always look forward to.
