History and background
The founder and president of the association, Nicole Di Venere, has been traveling to Africa, mainly to Tanzania, for decades as a professional travel consultant and guide. During all her visits, she supported people in need, especially orphans, out of her own pocket. In 2018 and 2019, she traveled to Arusha with our vice president, Alessandro Samà, to support a financially disadvantaged orphanage. She quickly decided to pay for the children's living expenses, the employees' wages and the rent of the property herself.
According to estimates, there are around 1.3 million orphans in Tanzania, caused by diseases such as HIV and malaria as well as a lack of medical care. According to the Arusha Social Welfare Department, there are around 64,000 children in need in the Arusha district alone, with just under 80 orphanages. The urgent need for more orphanages and her big heart for children prompted Nicole Di Venere to set up her own orphanage. As a result, the "House of Happiness" association was founded in September 2020.
We are supported by Mohamed Kassim Seramka ("Moody"), our coordinator in Arusha. He and his family help us with all the work and administrative procedures that arise on site. It was only thanks to the great - voluntary and unpaid - commitment of the Seramka family that we were able to realize our heart's project. This collaboration ensures that our orphanage is run in our spirit and that continuous monitoring on site is guaranteed. In addition, Nicole Di Venere travels to Tanzania four times a year at her own expense to get an idea of the situation.
