08.10.2026 - A special trip 🚌💛
Three visitors came to our House of Happiness and gave the children a very special evening: a shared dinner at the nearby Tembo Club.
We had rented a bus for this, which was supposed to arrive at 4:30 pm. Of course, I had factored in the now almost normal African delay of 30 minutes. After waiting for over an hour, we finally set off. 😄
The bus ride alone was something really special for the children. We almost all fit on the bus – nearly 60 people! The rest of the passengers followed in a minivan.
There was singing and laughter during the journey. Upon arrival at the Tembo Club, the children were immediately captivated by the large lion's head. Interestingly, there's a lion's head there even though "Tembo" means elephant in Swahili… 🤔😂
A buffet for 45 children 🍽️
The buffet was already set up. Without us even having to instruct the children, the lively group suddenly went quietly to the tables and took their seats. After the prayer, they washed their hands, got their food – and then ate. You could have heard a pin drop!
The plates were piled high and the portions seemed enormous. I was already wondering what we would do with the leftovers. No sooner had I finished the thought than some children went back to the buffet and got more food.
I really don't know where the kids put all that stuff! 😂
Dancing, playing and lots of fun 🎶
Since we were the only guests, the children could run wild in the huge garden. They played tag, jumped around, and danced. Because the music from their cell phones was barely audible, we quickly moved to the parking lot so we could use the bus's sound system. What fun! 🤪
The atmosphere on the return journey was even more exuberant than on the outward journey. Our colleague Sam encouraged the children to sing and dance, and there was much celebrating, laughter, and singing on the bus.
Once again, we had to put our Swiss safety-consciousness aside a little bit – that's Africa for you! 🤪
It was a wonderful trip that the children will surely remember for a long time. And for us, such shared experiences are priceless. ❤️
